WHAT DINA THINKS: Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in New York

Many of you might be wondering: Who is Sheikh Abdullah and why is his presence in New York important/relevant? Why is he in New York in the first place?

All of your questions are understandable. Not many UAE residents are familiar with the many ministers of the UAE and that's okay. (I don't mean that you shouldn't familiarize yourself with them ever! Try your best to be familiar of who they are and which ministries they represent.) Actually, Sheikh Abdullah is the UAE's Minister of Foreign Affairs, literally directing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which is more commonly known as MOFA.

What does the MOFA do? Well, by the name itself, it ministers foreign affairs. They use their smart diplomacy to help out with the UAE's goals like boosting their politics, economy, and strategic interests. Plus, they're all about keeping the world safe, stable, and green. Their foreign policy is like a balancing act, making sure things are moving forward, whether it's at home or across the globe. They're big on progress, development, and prosperity everywhere they go.

So, in simple words, the MOFA takes care of all bilateral relations of the UAE with many different countries. Just today, Sheikh Abdullah went to New York to separately meet his foreign counterparts who are ministers participating in the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78).

He met with the following people:

Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, Kosovo's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora;
Dr. Vincent Biruta, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda;
Elmedin Konakovic, Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina;
George Gerapetritis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece;
Alva Romanus Baptiste, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saint Lucia;
Jan Lipavský, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

The aforementioned Foreign Ministers had the UAE's back as they get ready for COP28, which is a big deal in the global climate action game because the world is facing more and more climate challenges. Sheikh Abdullah mentioned how the UN General Assembly talks are super into energy and climate stuff, especially with UNGA78 hosting the Climate Ambition Summit. He said that when the UAE hosts COP28, they want to team up with their global pals to come up with cool and practical ways to change up the energy scene, help the world get better at clean and renewable energy, cut down on carbon emissions, and put the brakes on global warming.

So... have I briefed you in everything that you need to know?

What do you think about this? Let me know in the comments!
