WHAT DINA SAYS: Palestinian Patients Find Hope in Abu Dhabi

Hi expats!

I have some heartwarming news for you today.Today marked a significant moment as the UAE welcomed the arrival of the first group of injured Palestinian children and women. As an expat residing in this diverse and compassionate nation, witnessing this humanitarian effort has been truly touching. The Nesma flight, carrying over 50 passengers, including injured individuals, medical professionals, and esteemed officials, landed at Abu Dhabi International Airport from El Arish International Airport in Egypt. Among them were nine children and women, some of whom required urgent medical attention, and one expectant mother. The care and attention they received upon arrival, being transferred to waiting ambulances, was heartening to witness.

This initiative is part of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s directive to extend medical treatment to 1,000 Palestinian children from Gaza. It’s a testament to the UAE’s enduring commitment to global humanitarianism, a value deeply appreciated by us expats.Listening to the gratitude expressed by a mother among the passengers, saying, ‘We want treatment. My son is critically injured. I thank the UAE leadership. We feel safe and assured,’ resonated with the sense of security and care that the UAE extends, not just to its citizens but to those in need, regardless of nationality. An official accompanying the patients shared, ‘This is the first of many flights. There will be more injured people being brought here,’ highlighting the ongoing support the UAE is committed to providing. The injured patients were swiftly transported to hospitals under Burjeel Holdings, NMC Healthcare, and Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, part of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha) network, where comprehensive medical care is being provided. This reassures us, as expats, of the quality healthcare facilities available here.Maha Barakat, assistant minister of Foreign Affairs for Health, emphasized the readiness of UAE hospitals to receive and care for the remaining children and their families. It’s comforting to know that the country is well-prepared to extend support during challenging times. The UAE’s prompt response in providing humanitarian aid and supplies to Gaza, including a significant aid package of $20 million directed by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the establishment of an integrated field hospital within the Gaza Strip through the ‘Gallant Knight’ operation, embodies the nation’s commitment to global solidarity and support. As an expat, witnessing the UAE’s compassion towards those in need reaffirms the sense of community and inclusivity that this country embodies. The actions taken today serve as a poignant reminder of the values that unite us all, transcending borders and cultures. It makes me even more happy to live in the UAE knowing that the leaders care about other people who are in need.
