WHAT DINA THINKS: UAE President Establishes International Humanitarian Council

In a significant move towards bolstering the nation's commitment to humanitarian endeavors, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has established the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council. This new body, outlined in a decree issued on Thursday, will play a pivotal role in overseeing policies and initiatives related to international humanitarian projects and philanthropy.

The roles and responsibilities of the council are multifaceted, aiming to streamline efforts and enhance the impact of humanitarian endeavors on a global scale. Among its key functions, the council will oversee the sector, review and approve policy agendas, and supervise the preparation and implementation of relevant projects. Furthermore, it will play a crucial role in developing the future vision for the sector, along with general frameworks for projects, while also forming necessary subcommittees to support operational activities.

Leading the council will be Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Office of Development and Martyrs Families Affairs at the Presidential Court, reflecting the nation's dedication to humanitarian causes at the highest levels of leadership.

The council's composition includes prominent figures in the UAE's government and humanitarian landscape, such as Reem Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Maryam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Al Mheiri, Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrouei, and other esteemed individuals. Their collective expertise and commitment to humanitarian efforts will undoubtedly drive positive change and make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need worldwide.

Furthermore, the council will integrate various existing committees, including the Joint Strategic Committee for African Cooperation, UAE Humanitarian Committee, Higher Committee for Foreign Aid, and International Health Advisory Committee, streamlining efforts and fostering synergies across different areas of humanitarian work.

Through the establishment of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, the UAE reaffirms its position as a global leader in humanitarian endeavors, committed to making a meaningful impact on the lives of people in distress, regardless of geographic boundaries.
