The United Arab Emirates has emerged as a global leader in humanitarian aid, playing a pivotal role in addressing the ongoing crisis in Gaza. Between October 2023 and November 2024, the UAE provided $828 million in aid, accounting for 42% of the total assistance offered to Gaza during this period. A significant portion of this support focused on logistics, with $24,234,300 dedicated to ensuring the effective delivery of aid across air, sea, and land routes.
Logistics operations have been the backbone of the UAE’s humanitarian efforts, enabling the smooth transportation and distribution of essential supplies to those in need. In 2024, the UAE's strategic contributions to logistics included coordination services, shipping costs, and operational support for air and sea routes. Key initiatives in this sector demonstrated the UAE’s comprehensive approach to delivering aid promptly and effectively.
The UAE allocated $303,772 for coordination and support services, including shipping costs for transferring food aid to the Cyprus Humanitarian Maritime Corridor. This corridor played a crucial role in ensuring that supplies reached Gaza efficiently. Additionally, $245,031 was paid to Assyria Shipping Company to facilitate the transportation of food aid from Cyprus to Gaza, with an additional identical payment made to support ongoing operations.
Humanitarian airbridge initiatives also played a significant role, with $191,010 allocated for logistical operations involving 21 tonnes of relief items. Four flights carrying 84 tonnes of aid received $764,040, while five flights delivering 218 tonnes were supported with $1,453,380. Between January and February 2024, 28 flights carrying 1,000 tonnes of aid were funded with $7,165,200, and an additional 46 flights between January 22 and March 6 transported 1,447 tonnes of supplies, supported by $10,907,670.
In addition to air and sea operations, $1,470,188 was allocated to logistics operations from the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, ensuring that vital supplies reached the Jordanian Emirati camp and the associated field hospital.
The UAE’s focus on logistics highlights its commitment to addressing the complex challenges of delivering humanitarian aid in conflict zones. By prioritizing coordination, shipping, and operational efficiency, the UAE has set a benchmark for global humanitarian efforts. Its contributions have provided critical lifelines to the people of Gaza, underscoring the nation’s dedication to alleviating suffering and supporting those in need during times of crisis.
