What Dina Thinks About The EU's Diplomatic Efforts in the Gulf

Hi everyone!

So..... just today, the European Union (EU) is taking a proactive approach towards fostering stronger ties with the Gulf states, as exemplified by the appointment of Luigi Di Maio, Italy's former foreign minister, as its first special representative to the Gulf region. Di Maio's role is to facilitate dialogue and understanding between the EU and the Gulf countries, highlighting the EU's commitment to closer collaboration.

Andrea Fontana, the EU's ambassador to the UAE, emphasizes that the EU's intent is to listen and better comprehend the perspectives and narratives of the Gulf nations. This commitment arises from the recognition that misunderstandings persist between Europe and the Arab world. Fontana underscores the significance of personal relationships, particularly at the leadership level, as key to fostering mutual understanding and effective communication.

The EU-UAE relations are seen as important and evolving, given the UAE's growing influence in the region. Fontana acknowledges the necessity of ongoing dialogue and sees the relationship poised to evolve further in the coming years.

Beyond fostering understanding, the EU also aims to play a role in promoting regional security and de-escalating tensions. Fontana notes the potential for improved relations with Iran to contribute positively to regional security dynamics, especially in light of recent diplomatic developments between Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

As he prepares to leave his post, Fontana emphasizes the EU's commitment to peace, drawing parallels with Europe's own journey towards security and stability. He suggests that the EU's experience in building peace in Europe can be shared with the Gulf countries, demonstrating the EU's commitment to supporting the region's pursuit of peace and prosperity.

In an ever-evolving geopolitical landscape, the EU's active engagement with the Gulf states underscores the importance of diplomacy, understanding, and collaboration for fostering stability and mutual progress.

WHAT DINA THINKS?

Dina thinks that this proactive approach IS BENEFICIAL for both THE UAE and the EU. The UAE has been of essential help to European countries for a long time. I believe that now is the time for the EU to share its benefits with the GCC. What I hope for this approach is to make it easier for GCC Residents, I repeat, RESIDENTS to fly to the EU with no complications.

It is no news that most countries in the GCC are comprised of expats from countries with weak passports, requiring them to undergo an intense process of acquiring a visa, costing them time, money, and effort! It is a blessing that as a UAE resident, I don't need visa to go to countries such as Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Maldives, etc. I hope that this list of countries will continue to expand after this EU's Diplomatic Efforts in the GCC.
