WHAT DINA THINKS: UAE x Guyana Ties?

Hey expats!

After a relaxing weekend, I have some great news for you. I want to hear your opinions too!

Yesterday, The UAE and the Co-Operative Republic of Guyana recently reaffirmed their commitment to fostering stronger ties across various developmental sectors. In a significant meeting between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Guyana's President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, both nations pledged to enhance cooperation in critical areas of mutual interest.

Like many other bilateral ties, one of the primary focal points of their discussions revolved around collaborative efforts in promoting food security, energy sustainability, technological advancements, capacity-building initiatives, and fostering cultural exchanges. Sheikh Mohamed praised Guyana's commendable strides in sustainable development while reiterating the UAE's unwavering dedication to global climate action and sustainability measures.

The historical diplomatic relations between the UAE and Guyana, dating back to 1995, were underscored during the discussions. Moreover, both countries unveiled plans to establish respective embassies in each other's territories, signaling a deeper commitment to strengthening their bond.

Economic collaboration between the two nations has experienced substantial growth, as evidenced by a notable 20% increase in non-oil bilateral trade, reaching an impressive USD 826 million in 2022. This flourishing economic relationship further solidifies their shared vision for reinforced investments and economic ties in recent years.

An exciting development arising from the discussions was the agreement to inaugurate a UAE embassy in Guyana, symbolizing a significant milestone in their bilateral relations. High-level visits were also acknowledged as pivotal opportunities to fortify diplomatic ties, referencing recent ministerial visits that underscored their mutual commitment to closer collaboration.

I think that a noteworthy aspect of this collaboration is the joint contribution of USD 500,000 towards building a school catering to children with special needs. From what I see, this initiative reflects their shared dedication to mutual prosperity through enhanced cooperation.

The recent discussions between the UAE and Guyana serve as a testament to their mutual commitment to broader cooperation and shared developmental goals. As both nations move forward, their strengthened ties are poised to bring about lasting positive impacts on their respective societies and the global community at large.

So, what do you think?
