Hi Expats!

The 27th Session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information recently convened in Abu Dhabi, chaired by H.E. Talal Humaid Belhoul, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UAE Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA). This significant gathering brought together Arab delegations, the Technical Secretariat of the Council, and representatives from various organizations to discuss crucial topics in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector.

The agenda of the session centered around key discussions initiated during the 53rd Meeting of the Executive Bureau of the Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers (ATICM), held on January 17, 2024, under the auspices of the UAE. The deliberations revolved around collaborative efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure, bridge the digital divide in the Arab world, and create a digitally integrated Arab society.

One of the primary focal points was the emphasis on collective Arab initiatives in the ICT sector. Participants underscored the importance of collaborative endeavors to fortify digital infrastructure, ensuring its resilience and efficiency. The aim is to address the digital divide that exists within the Arab world, promoting inclusivity and connectivity across diverse communities.

The discussions highlighted the pivotal role of modern digital technologies in advancing the region's ICT sector. Participants acknowledged the need to harness these technologies to enhance service quality, considering principles of sustainable development. The emphasis on promoting digital investments in the ICT sector was a key component, underlining the role of private and public sectors in driving innovation and progress.

A significant outcome of the meeting was the adoption of topics discussed in the Arab ICT Permanent Committee meeting. This committee called for Arab countries to align their experiences in digital transformation with the Arab Digital Strategy, a framework adopted by the UAE. The strategy aims to measure the digital transformation maturity level across all sectors, providing guidance for countries to advance their technological capabilities and improve the services they deliver.

The Council of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information, as the supreme executive body for the development of the Arab ICT community, plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration and progress. The recent session showcased the commitment of Arab nations to work collectively towards a digitally integrated future, leveraging modern technologies, sustainable development principles, and the guiding framework of the Arab Digital Strategy. As the Arab ICT Permanent Committee continues its efforts, these initiatives are expected to propel the region towards greater digital maturity and global competitiveness.
